MGA 1200
Hamilton Sundstrand offers many different levels of upgrades and refurbishments for the MGA product line. These activities allow MGA users to enhance the performance of their existing systems as well as revitalize any MGAs that have not been in use for some time. We have refurbished and upgraded MGA analyzers that are over twenty years old and have put them back to their "workhorse" condition. Some of the existing programs are defined below:

MGA 1200 REFURBISHMENT UPGRADED WITH PRIME SOFTWARE AND TURBO PUMP
This activity takes an existing ion pumped MGA 1200 and and upgrades and refurbishes it to like-new operating condition. The upgrade includes replacing the existing ion pump with a turbomolecular pump and adding Prime Software to the system. The existing functionality of the system is changed such that Prime Software acts as the User Interface and controls all readouts, calibration, stream selection and communications.

This is a refurbishment activity and not a repair activity. It is assumed that the returned system is operational. The customer will be notified of all defective components and the repair or replacement price before any repair or replacement activity commences. All replaced hardware, except vacuum hoses and fastening devices, will be returned to the customer unless Hamilton Sundstrand is notified, in writing, to the contrary. Please note that the cabinets will not be repaired, replaced or repainted. This activity can be performed at additional cost.

The following work will be performed:
  • The system will be fully disassembled and all subassemblies will be cleaned as well as possible
  • A Turbopump and its control electronics shall replace the existing ion or turbo pump as well as their existing control electronics. Turbomolecular pumps allow the user to reach vacuum much quicker than the standard ion pump. In addition, turbo pumps have a longer service life than ion pumps.
  • The analyzer housing will be cleaned to "like-new" specifications
  • The collector subassemblies will be cleaned and electrically checked.
  • The ion source shall be disassembled, cleaned and reassembled with new filaments.
  • Two new mechanical vacuum pumps will be provided
  • Heated inlet modules and valves will be replaced
  • All subassemblies will be checked for proper operation. Repair or replacement of defective subassemblies is not included.
  • The system will be reassembled and aligned
  • A data station, operating the Prime software, as well as all required interface hardware will be supplied. The data station consists of the following hardware:
A limited system calibration will be performed to assure the functionality of the refurbished system. Full system calibration is the customer's responsibility and should be performed after the system is returned to the customer.

The systems will include a new 12 month factory warranty on all parts replaced during refurbishment. No warranty is available for those components that are just cleaned and reused. Hamilton Sundstrand reserves the right to keep any components that are replaced.

MGA 1200 GENERAL SYSTEM REFURBISHMENT
This activity takes an existing ion pumped MGA 1200 and refurbishes it to like-new operating condition. All of the existing functionality of the unit is maintained.

The factory work will include full disassembly of the unit and cleaning of all subassemblies, replacement of the vacuum pump and certain other elements, testing of the subassemblies and the reassembly and alignment of the instrument. A limited system calibration will be performed to assure the functionality of the refurbished system. Full system calibration is the customer's responsibility and should be performed after the system is returned to the customer.

The systems will include a new 12-month factory warranty on all parts replaced during refurbishment. No warranty is available for those components that are just cleaned and reused. Hamilton Sundstrand reserves the right to keep any components that are replaced.

TURBOMOLECULAR PUMP OPTION - FIELD INSTALLED
This upgrade takes an MGA 1200 with an existing ion pump and upgrades it to a Turbomolecular pump. A turbomolecular drag pump is used to achieve the high vacuum within the mass spectrometer. The turbomolecular drag pump enhances system operation by decreasing pump-down time, eliminating vacuum spiking, increasing the range of gases measured by the MGA and eliminating the regular replacement of ion pump elements. On average, a turbomolecular pump will have a lifetime up to five times greater than an ion pump.

PRIME - DATA ACQUISITION SOFTWARE PACKAGE - FIELD INSTALLED
Prime software is the operating interface for the MGA 1200EC. Based on a WindowsÔ 95/98/NT operating system, Prime is an intuitive, menu-driven graphical user interface.

Prime allows the operator to configure real-time displays in multiple formats with custom tags, as well as display trending and historical data. In addition, it gives the user the ability to configure the entire MGA 1200EC system including the sample system configuration, automatic calibration utilities, and communication protocols. Alarming functions can be set with Prime and configured as outputs.

Prime software can provide digital and analog outputs as well as accept digital and analog inputs. This allows the user to interface third party accessories to the system and display the inputs as a real-time display.

Prime software is able to communicate to a DCS using several protocols. The standard protocol is an ASCII formatted serial output. As an option, 4-20 mA or 0-10 VDC outputs and Modbus communication protocol can be provided optionally.

Includes field installation to an existing MGA1200, a half-day introduction to Prime software, and calibration of the instrument. Calibration gases are to be supplied by the customer.

MGA 1600 GENERAL REFURBISHMENT

The work performed on an MGA 1600 unit will return it to factory performance specifications. Please note that the cabinets will not be repaired, replaced or repainted. This activity can be performed at additional cost.

The factory work will include full disassembly of the unit and cleaning of all subassemblies, replacement of the vacuum pumps, turbopumps and certain other elements, testing of the subassemblies and the reassembly and alignment of the instrument. A limited system calibration will be performed to assure the functionality of the refurbished system. Full system calibration is the customer's responsibility and should be performed after the system is returned to the customer.

A limited system calibration will be performed to assure the functionality of the refurbished system. Full system calibration is the customer's responsibility and should be performed after the system is returned to the customer.

The above operation will assure the user of a system that is in factory new operating condition. The systems will include a new 12 month factory warranty on all parts replaced during refurbishment. No warranty is available for those components that are just cleaned and reused. Hamilton Sundstrand reserves the right to keep any components that are replaced.
